Sub: Request to observe Vigilance Awareness Week along with
Rajyotsava and Deepavali celebrations.
I am Jayashree JN , wife of MN Vijayakumar, IAS. It is highly commendable that the Karnataka IAS Officers' Association together with the Karnataka IAS Officers' Wives Association is celebrating the 52nd Karnataka Rajyotsava on 7/11/08. THe Association also wants to celebrate Deepavali , the festival of lights - the triumph of good over evil.
I have a suggestion for the organisors of this function. The Central Vigilance Commission has announced the observance of Vigilance Awareness Week from 3rd to 7th November 2008. The pledge to be taken by the Public Servants is also given in the CVC website. As the date of the Rajyotsava function falls within this week, it will be most appropriate to observe the Awareness week along with that function. The Public Servants of Karnataka are well aware that Karnataka is one of the most corrupt States in the country. The IAS Officers, being top Public Servants have a major role in bringing out Karnataka from this shameful position .Taking pledge to remove this stigma on the occasion of the Rajyotsava celebrations will be the most meaningful tribute an Officer can pay to Karnataka.
As most of the IAS Officers will have gathered, I think this opportunity should be used to administer pledge to the Officers. With Karnataka reeling under poverty and innocent children dying from mal-nutrition, the time has come for Officers to stand up and re-dedicate themselves for serving the people with utmost integrity.
Incidentally, my husband Sri MN Vijayakumar has already taken the pledge along with 30 officials in the Karnataka Appellate Tribunal.I request you to forward this email to all the IAS officers in Karnataka so that they can also take the pledge with their staff during the Vigilance Awareness Week .
I request you, once again to please use this opportunity and observe the Vigilance Awareness Week. Please read out the message given by H.E the President of India making it clear that fighting corruption is the moral responsibility of everyone and I quote ….It is the moral duty of each and every person to make society free from corruption
